The extent of the geographic range of Lentigo lentiginosus is from East Africa through the entire Indian Ocean to the Marshall and Tuamotu Islands in the Pacific (Kreipl & Poppe 1999). In general, Strombids have a circumtropical distribution, occurring predominately within the 20°C isotherm (Berg 1974). Most species are found in the Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific areas (87 species/subspecies) (Kreipl & Poppe 1999). Most species live in shallow water, from the low tide line to a depth of about 10 metres, on sandy or muddy bottoms, but also on coral reefs (Kreipl & Poppe 1999). Shallow water species, such as Lentigo lentiginosus, tend to be found in areas with hermatypic coral (Berg 1974).
